Over the past year Schurrtop Angus & Charolais has been consistently netting high returns on their genetics marked through Angus America. These returns landed them at the top of Angus America's list for Seedstock Producers. Schurrtops year end results show a total head count of 915 cattle marked at an average premium of $40.05 over the cash market.

Fifty-three percent of all their cattle fit into a premium program. Eighty-one percent graded Choice or better while forty percent were Yeild Grade 2 or better. Maintaining a high standard of quality grade, combined with low yield grades and very few out cattle is a combination, which brought Schurrtops genetics to the top.

Schurrtop is a family organization, with John and Kay Schurr working side by side with their sons Marty, Wayne, and Ryan and John's brother Jerry.

Marty comments " There are a lot of changes taking place in the industry from a the production and carcass standpoint and we are excited about true value finally coming out."

Schurrtop also had the highest premium on an individual pen for the year. This was no fluke for them as they produced four of the top six returning lots for the year.

Schurrtop's results are no accident. They have included carcass testing as one of their focuses for many years and have been very successful at the Great Western Beef Expo. With their history of data collection, Schurrtop has developed genetics which are able to  produce a high dimension of muscle though out which is required to produce high red meat yielding carcasses.
