John Schurr Elected to American Angus Association Board of Directors

John and Kay Schurr

Elected to the American Angus Association board representing the state of Nebraska is John L. Schurr of Farnam. John was elected to serve his first term on the board, replacing Lowell Minert. He started in the purebred Angus business in 1962, and since then the Schurrtop Angus & Charolais operation has grown to host two production sales each year and was recently listed as the 13th largest seedstock operation in the United States by the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association (NCBA). John and his wife, Kay, have three sons, Marty, Wayne and Ryan, who are all part of the operation.

Schurrtop has been performance testing and using AHIR since its beginning. Carcass testing has also been a focus in the herd for over 33 years. In addition to the cow-calf part of the operation, they also feed cattle and market the majority on a vale-based grid. Schurrtop is a member of Angus America and was named its 2001 Seedstock Producer of the year.

John has been active in the Nebraska Angus Association, National Cattlemen’s Beef Association (NCBA) and the Ranchers-Cattlemen Action Legal Fund United Stockgrowers of America (R-CALF USA), as well as many civic and church related activities.
